I made our cake this afternoon. The recipe didn't work. I made another genoise recipe, finished the cake and was all ready to blog about my big catastrophe. But we just got a call that there's been a death in the family, and suddenly, who cares if the cake didn't turn out? Here's a picture of the finished slice. It's a little bit of sweetness on a suddenly sad day.
Our hosts this week are Sophia of Sophia’s Sweets and Allison of Sleep Love Think Dine. Check out the cake with fruit and cream combo, but maybe try a different genoise recipe.

Thanks. My husband’s father died last night, only a couple of hours after they’d spoken on the phone. He has been sick for many years, but it was a shock anyway. We’re all very sad.

Thank you. I think it would make a nice 4th of July picnic cake.

I’m so sorry about the loss in your family.
This cake looks lovely! Is it a larger recipe because your layers looks as tall as my full cake.

I agree. Who cares. It is only cake and you can make another one. I am sorry for your loss. What a sad day. But it is nice to have a record of your feelings forever in this blog. Best wishes.
